At Ascot Road, we believe in nurturing the holistic development of our students. Physical Education (PE) is an integral part of our curriculum as it promotes not only physical health but also fosters social, emotional, and cognitive skills.

Our PE program is designed with the following key intentions:

We aim to enhance students' physical fitness levels by providing them with opportunities to engage in a variety of physical activities, exercises, and sports.

Our PE curriculum focuses on developing fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, and balancing. These skills serve as the foundation for students to participate confidently in various sports and activities.

Through team sports, group activities, and cooperative games, we encourage students to develop essential social skills like teamwork, communication, and cooperation.

We strive to instil in our students the knowledge and understanding of the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.

We educate them about the benefits of regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and personal hygiene.

Implementation

At Ascot Road, our PE program is implemented through a combination of structured lessons, extracurricular activities, and special events. Here's how we implement our PE curriculum:

Students participate in PE classes taught by qualified PE coach who follow a planned curriculum aligned with national standards. These lessons include warm-up activities, skill development drills, fitness exercises, and cool-down routines.

Our PE program is inclusive, catering to students of all abilities and backgrounds. We provide modifications and adaptations to ensure that every student can participate and succeed.

The Wider Curriculum

We offer a range of extracurricular sports clubs and teams where students can further develop their skills and interests outside of regular PE classes. These club include football, basketball, cheerleading, rounders and dodgeball.

Throughout the school year, we organise special events such as sports day, inter-house competitions, and fitness challenges to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit.

Impact

The impact of our PE program extends beyond the physical domain and encompasses various aspects of student development:

At Ascot Road,  our children develop improved physical fitness, motor skills, coordination, and flexibility through regular participation in PE activities.  They learn valuable social skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and cooperation through interaction with peers in sports and group activities.  Physical activity has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while boosting mood and self-esteem. Our PE program provides students with a positive outlet for expression and relaxation.  By instilling a love for physical activity and promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle from an early age, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge and habits they need to lead active and fulfilling lives beyond the school gates.  We are committed to providing a high-quality PE program that promotes the well-being and development of all our students, ensuring a lifelong love of sport.
